What is CHINMAYA MIND?
This concept and idea were created by Swamy Ishwarananda of Chinmaya Mission Los Angeles. We as students follow the guidelines of Swamiji and continue the practice in Buffalo NY as well.
A series of online guided meditations focusing on values, as we embark on a journey of spiritual awareness. The members are expected to sit for meditation everyday for 15-20 minutes at 10 pm PST.
What is guided meditation?
During the guided meditation session, will discuss the dynamics of the mind and how to prepare the mind for meditation by integrating the following values in everyday life, one each month for 12 months (Jan-Dec 2020)

What is the best time to meditate?
Whenever you are able to quiet the mind effortlessly, you can meditate. Usually the early morning hours are considered as best time since the chattering mind is quiet after a good night sleep. Before going to bed is also fine as your physical activities has come to subside when you are ready to sleep.
How to quieten the mind?
There are many methods to quiet the mind. One simple technique is to observe inhalation and exhalation of breath while sitting in a comfortable, alert posture. Another effective method is to chant Om after deep inhalation. The method used by Vedanta teachers is to, contemplate on selected verses from the scriptures and focus on the higher Self through concentration.
How long should I meditate?
Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda used to advise the seekers, not to meditate more than 30 minutes in a day. He suggested that we should keep observing ourselves throughout our daily routines and keep a vigil over wrong tendencies and false values. Through such practices, the mind will become easily available for meditation.
What should I do in meditation?
Meditation is non-action. When the mind has become quiet, do not attempt to engage in any physical activity. Watch the thoughts and do not participate in thoughts as they rise and fall. Just observe. Thoughts will subside and you will become aware of the underlying silent Awareness.
What are the benefits of meditation?
True result of meditation is deep inner peace. All external results are temporary. You will be able to function efficiently with a calm mind. Restlessness will end and you will be able to handle even stressful situations with a quiet mind with higher concentration.
